Salco Now Supporting Member of Operation Clean Sweep

August 17, 2022

Lemont, IL. (08/17/2022) – Leaders of Salco Products announced today the signing of a Memo of Understanding to begin promoting Operation Clean Sweep® to plastic resin handling operations within and outside of their organization. Originated by the Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) in the 1990’s, Operation Clean Sweep (OCS) is an environmental stewardship program that has been implemented by over 300 U.S. companies and over 60 international plastics organizations around the world.

The global plastics industry is committed to its role as an environmental steward. Ensuring that spilled plastic resin – the raw material from which plastic products are made – do not make their way into the local environment, including waterways, lakes, oceans, etc. is a priority. Resin loss can occur in manufacturing plants where it may be inadvertently washed down drains or lost during transportation. The goal of Operation Clean Sweep is to help plastic resin handlers implement systematic housekeeping and containment practices to pursue zero waste.

“We’re excited to bring this very successful environmental stewardship program to our members. Salco urges all of its customers / partners who handle plastic resin to take the Operation Clean Sweep pledge to prevent the loss of resin into the environment. We all agree that plastic materials don’t belong in the environment, and this program can help us practice better product stewardship across our industry.”

PLASTICS VP of Sustainability and Industry Affairs, Patrick Krieger added, “Our organization is pleased to share tools with Salco Products to promote Operation Clean Sweep among their membership. Protecting the environment takes industry cooperation, and we are delighted to share a program that has helped hundreds of other companies keep plastic resin out of waterways and pursue zero waste.”

The Operation Clean Sweep program and manual contain guidelines to help plant operations managers reduce plastic resin loss to the environment. Learn more about the program at www.opcleansweep.org
